Linking from /usr/lib/X11/fonts to /usr/share/fonts/X11/

Hi All

How do I create safely a link from /usr/lib/X11/fonts to
/usr/share/fonts/X11/? 

The usual (?) procedure does not work here:
cd /usr/lib/X11/
# ln --symbolic --force -i /usr/share/fonts/X11/ fonts
ln: replace `fonts/X11'? y

So I say: create 'fonts', and 'ln' creates 'fonts/X11'?
Actually I believe this link was created then in
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ 
But whatever ...

I tried several other variations of the command above, which stranded
me up in reinstalling all x-fonts, just to be safe I didn't ruin my
current xorg stuff more than it already is currently done on unstable:
