keyboard+graphics lock ups?; background processes are ok
Hello all,
I have observed recently that I am experiencing random lock-ups of the
X and (I think) of the keyboard.
The problems, AFAIR - but not 100% sure, appeared before migrating to
modular X, but since then (some hours ago), I didn't had any X session
without lockup.
What do I mean by lock-up?
- Sometimes the mouse is still moving, but no clicks are accepted.
- Also the keyboard seems to be dead, or the system does not respond
to any keyboard input.
- The current image is frozen and switching to other consoles does not work.
- happened only in X
- background processes are working (laptop-net beeps on removal of
cable and recoupling)
- I can login by ssh; top reports Xorg consuming 80% - 90% CPU
- the system is responsive from the ssh login
