Ok people, I asked this list the question, but I kept searching, and I 
found a "weak" answer.  I read that xorg from ubuntu works on sid, so 
followinf the instructions, I started, and sure enough I ran into problems.

I installed lsb-base_2.0-1ubuntu2_all.deb to resolve a dependency, 
Description says it's Linux Standard Base 1.3 initscript functions.  I 
have no idea, but moving forward

I created a folder /xorg and in it put:
libfs6_6.8.2-10-powerpc.deb
libgksuui1.0-0_1.0.3-2ubuntu2_powerpc.deb
libx11-6_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
libxau6_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
libxdmcp6_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb

xlibmesa-dri_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
xlibmesa-gl_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
xlibmesa-glu_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
xorg-common_6.8.2-10_all.deb
xserver-common_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
xserver-xorg_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
xutils_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb
x-window-system-core_6.8.2-10_powerpc.deb

and from within this directory I ran dpkg --force-conflicts -i *.deb, ( 
this after a regular dpkg -i refused to install because of 
xfree86-common, and xbase, and configure problems).

then ran dpkg -i *.deb in the same directory, but this time the only 
problem I ran into was with xutils.  I get xutils conflicts with 
xbase-clients. I copied XF86Config-4 to xorg.conf (which is the reverse 
of what I did coming to debian from ubuntu) and everything seems to work 
fine.

So can somebody recommend a solution to my xbase and xutils problem?  I 
haven't looked too much into what is still installed as far as xfree, 
but I had a bunch of -dev packages, so will those need to be recompiled?
