Hm. I'm sure I tried nearly every reasonable combination.

What makes me wonder: When I just plug in the 
FireWire disk, nothing happens, even not

fdisk -l /dev/sda
fdisk -l /dev/sdb
fdisk -l /dev/sdc

Only plugging and unplugging a USB stick makes it providing error messages.
Does the USB environment provide something the FireWire needs?

I'll try to attach the disk now on the USB port. 
Unluckily I cannot find my USB cable at the 
moment.
