trouble compiling kernel-2.6.12-rc5

I see posts of people running 2.6.12-rc5 so i am wondering what I am doing wrong, my compile quits with 
No rule to make target `net/ipv4/netfilter/ipt_ecn.c', needed by 
`net/ipv4/netfilter/ipt_ecn.o'.  Stop.

Any ideas

Fresh 2.6.11 tree  patched to 2.6.12-rc5
