...turns out that my config file for webcam was not setup correctly... after
creating a *good* config file, and changing the norm to ntsc, all was well!

thanks for the ideas.... i will play around with the driver next time i
compile a kernel... perhaps it would be best to contact the author of
hasciicam, and see what he thinks.

great work on the planB driver... perhaps someday it will be completely
supported?  :)
