Unexpected Shift_L key events

Hi,

I use a 2.4.24-ben1 kernel, with XFree version Debian 4.3.0-0ds4
20030417161212.

Since quite recently, under X, the keyboard generates unexpected events
for the left shift key (KeyPress and KeyRelease), while I don't touch
the keyboard, nor the mouse.

I checked under the console with showcodes but nothing like that
happens, only under X checking with xev.

Here are the events reported :
KeyPress event, serial 22, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001,
    root 0x40, subw 0x0, time 22726970, (397,659), root:(529,718),
    state 0x0, keycode 50 (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 characters: ""

KeyRelease event, serial 22, synthetic NO, window 0x3200001,
    root 0x40, subw 0x0, time 22726970, (397,659), root:(529,718),
    state 0x1, keycode 50 (keysym 0xffe1, Shift_L), same_screen YES,
    XLookupString gives 0 characters: ""

It is very annoying. Not too much under plain X because the events are
close enough not to disturb it but running something "slower" like MOL
is a real pain in the neck as when I try to type "Hello" I get something
like "hELoO" !!

Any help ?
