snooze works fine on my 400MHz Pismo running a recent 2.4.24-ben1
kernel with CONFIG_PMAC_PBOOK=y.  I'm running Woody testing, so maybe
you could try downgrading pmud (I'm running version 0.10-4) and see if
that solves the problem.
