That could be related to a new kernel. 
I encountered problems with xine and mplayer when I had wrong settings
for RTC in my kernel-.config. Since I switched back to 
	# CONFIG_GEN_RTC is not set
	CONFIG_PPC_RTC=y
	# CONFIG_RTC is not set
it works again.
