...not really an answer, but I'm running Woody on such a
machine (originally PB180 but replaced the daughtercard by
a 240 one) and I could only get it boot from BootX. It is
a bit slower but it works, so if you have enough space to
keep a minimal MacOS on your HD, that might be a way out.

"dmesg | more" will work if you get your linux booted.
If you find yourself back in the installer every time you
boot, you should try "alt-F1" or "alt-F2" to get to a
free terminal where you can issue basic commands.

Another suggestion: try different kernels. I only got it
boot almost properly with 2.2. Only my Asante Fast ethernet
card was not working. I had no problem with the ethernet
card when booting 2.4.something, but I could not get
graphic interfaces working properly (XFree86 and desktops).
