I exactly know what you mean :) On my iBook 500 it is the same,
although it does not happen each time. Actually it did not 
happen for quite a while now. But I do not think that this error
is sorted out already.

In fact, the benh kernel seems to have newer sound drivers for
dmasound.

I also tried the Alsa-Drivers 0.9-whatever. But unfortunately,
those drivers crashed my machine when entering Snooze-Mode.


I am using "Linux 2.4.20-ben1 #1 Tue Dec 31 14:46:01 CET 2002 ppc unknown
unknown GNU/Linux" right now. Maybe you have a try. Get it like this:
# rsync -avz --delete rsync.penguinppc.org::linux-2.4-benh benh-linux
