Thanks for the tips there... seems to work ok. However, kdm won't start. xdm does, tho, so it might be a fiddle rather than a fix If you're interested, the XFree86.0.log says "X: client 2 rejected on localhost"... (or something like that) Which sounds like heaps of fun Chris
