Re: Help with X using ATI pci card?
Thomas,
Thanks for your help. However, I didn't take the
card bus ID from lspci but from 'cat /proc/pci".
Besides the ID is good because the computer does
send signals to the moniter through the card at that
busID because I do get really distorted crosshatched
craziness for a picture.
Perhaps I should use a newer server, but I thought I
could use 4.1.0.1 of debian stable because the card
was build in 1997 and surely, I reasoned, has been
supported by this time. Besides if I wanted
something newer I wouldn't be running debian.
I also can't use the xvidtune because, when do some
random combination of configuration I get a picture,
there is no X cursor to select the buttons on the
xvidtune.
Additionally, I tried auto-generating from
xf86config as well and those configurations don't
work. Yours is the first success story I have ever
heard of someone successfully using xf86config.
Its utterly remarkable to me that it gets installed
at all on X for the powerpc, because its never
worked for my machines.
Thanks for your help. If you have any other hints
for me I would happily try them out.
