Ok, I see what the deal is. The "mount automatically" bit is not set.
You need to go into Drive Setup, select the drive from the list, and
then under the "Functions" menu, there should be a menu item that says
something about Volume Options, or Customize Volumes, or something to
that effect. Select the HFS/HFS+ volume from the list in the window that
appears, and check the "Mount on boot" checkbox. Then MacOS should
automatically mount the volume to your desktop next time MacOS is
booted.
