apt-get update
it keeps telling me
lgn http://http.us.debian.org woody/main Release
then I get a while of a small percentage of
[Connecting to http.us.debian.org]
the percentage has never seemed to go over 17%
and then I get

I don't think I've ever experienced that. I guess it _could_ be related
to the non-US issue, though, so you should try commenting out that
second line again.
Here's what I get after apt-get update (source.list urls at bottom):

bottom warnings are
Couldn't stat source package list 'http://http.us.debian.org
woody/main Packages'
(/var/state/apt/lists/http.us.debian.org_debian_dists_woody_main_binary-powerpc_Packages)
- stat (2 No such file or directory
....(repeated for contrib and non-free)
INFO FROM SOURCE.LIST FILE
I seemed to get the security urls pop up a lot in the errors, so I
commented out that in source.list Obviously that didn't help.
The uncommented urls, therefore, that resulted in the above messages are:
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free
Thanks
