setting up X

I have finally been able to install Debian 2.2r5 on my PowerMac 5500
with 15" Apple MultiScan Monitor. I ran xviddetect which detected Mach
64 as the vidoe card. But i haven't been able to start up X.

When i give the command startx, the monitor goes dark for some seconds
and then gives error message similar to the one in the thread below:

http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&threadm=a05001900b642ffbf62cc%40%5B129.49.78.115%5D&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dstarting%2Bx%2Bfbdev%2Bmach64%2Bmultiscan%2Bgroup:comp.os.linux.powerpc%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF8%26oe%3DUTF8%26selm%3Da05001900b642ffbf62cc%2540%255B129.49.78.115%255D%26rnum%3D1

In fact my problem is quite similar to Croshow in the thread. I tried
the remedy in the reply but it has no effect. I ran anXious to
configure the X but do startx after that, the error message says that
there is no compatible driver available or something like that; when i
check the /etc/X11/XF86Config the screen section has "accl" as the
driver. When i change it to "fbdev", it goes back to the former error
message.

Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
thx
Asif
