Recommended kernel? (current one crashes)

I'm using a 2.4.16-newpmac kernel on a Titanium (this was the latest
proposed kernel when the Debian distribution was installed on my
machine). I wanted to compile Mozilla (I tried twice), but twice,
the machine completely froze during the compilation. I suppose that
there is a bug in the kernel.

What is the recommended 2.4.x kernel, if possible, available as a
Debian package? Where can I get it?
