Most probably the fbdev driver is broken for the non-ShadowFB case. :/
Please try to debug this (Hint: 'control' is mentioned in the source,
that might be a good start), either using a static server, or it would
be even greater if you ported the gdb XFree86 module loader patch in the
progress. :)
