Re: Mounting floppy (or not) - Debian 2.2r5 for ppp (potato)

Hi Derrik

I'm using Debian 2.2.r5 (Kernel 2.4.4) loaded from a CD set that was burnt in January 2002 which should be up to date and stable. I used the installation screens to load it.

ls -l /dev gives
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Mar 22 12:06 fd -> /proc/self/fd

brw-rw---- 1 root floppy 2, 0 Mar 22 12:06 fd0

ls -l /proc gives
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 64 Mar 27 17:51 self -> 373

and no fd doesn't show up in /proc/devices

TIA

Clive

 After installing the MkLinux version of MAKEDEV it didn't seem to

 I shall try "info mknod" to see if it sheds any light but I'm still
 confused.

The kernel from nubus-pmac.sf.net is NOT an MkLinux kernel. MkLinux is a
Linux kernel running as a server on top of Mach, and the kernel at
nubus-pmac is a true native kernel port. I have 3 systems (PowerMac
6100s) with the nubus-pmac kernel running on them, and their floppy
drives work fine. The kernel is known to support the SWIM3 floppy
controller on those systems (also used in several others). Does 'fd'
show up under 'Block devices:' in /proc/devices? Did you build a custom
kernel for that system, or are you using one of the stock kernels posted
on the site?
