That's the wrong approach. SDL does it transparently, xine does it, ...

Unfortunately, SDL doesn't downsample 48 kHz to 44.1 kHz here (using
mplayer). dmasound_awacs.c looks like 48 kHz is advertised, but 44.1 kHz
is hardcoded, or am I missing something?
