That's the point really. The apps have to check the driver capalities and deal with them anyway. If the driver tries to be too intelligent about what the app wants, duplicated work may be the result.

but there is other stuff out there that does the same, for better or
worse. (I know the PPC version of the CivCTP demo seems to do the same
thing.)

AFAIK the Loki guys are fairly open to suggestions.


PS: linuxppc-dev is more appropriate for kernel patches and discussion.
