to muck around with another OS yes.  

far better to just make your own specialized script and use a postinst
hook to implement it.  i think this is your only option given a recent
dicussion about kernel-package bootloader stuff on -devel (manoj won't
add specific grub support to kernel-package either -> use a postinst
hook).
