I don't know about irda, but you almost certainly shouldn't be using
the zImage in the chrpboot directory (this is for CHRP machines!)  I'm
assuming you're using yaboot?  yaboot boots the 'vmlinux' file
directly, which is just the straight linux kernel image (not
compressed).

Just use the vmlinux file that's created in the top level of the
kernel source directory. i.e. /usr/src/linux-pmac-devel/vmlinux.
