Hello Michel,
This file is the log of the information sent. This serves to protect your
privacy : you can check exactly what was sent.
There are software that rely on /var/log/popularity-contest, so they would
need to be adapted but more importantly, being in /var/lib means the files
would not be rotated which would be a problem.
savelog -c 7 is in /etc/cron.daily/popularity-contest which is a configuration
file already, so you can change it.
