perl 5.8.0 package status update
The transition to Perl 5.8.0 is now almost complete. The only major
outstanding issue is building on mips*, which should hopefully be
resolved by the 5.8.0-13 packages (which now use gcc 3.2 on some
platforms).
Some issues which will need to be added to the sarge release notes with
respect to Perl:
"This release breaks binary compatibility with previous versions of
perl. Users will need to re-build any locally installed binary (XS)
modules.
DB_File now uses libdb4.0 (previously libdb2). Any DB_File databases
created with earlier perl packages will need to be upgraded before
being used with the current module with the db4.0_upgrade program (in
the libdb4.0-util package)."
There are now only a handful of packages remaining which have dependency
