Actually, it's a potato system that has glibc2.1 on hold. I had
promised someone to have a non-glibc2.1 perl package. It's getting
kind've late for that.

I think the idea of 5.004 using the old libs, while 5.005+ uses the new
libs works.
BTW, I've integrated your changes and running tests now. I really
appreciate your help.
