Package: libreoffice-core (I think)Version: 4:7.4.7-1I think the packages default-jre and libreoffice-java-common should be dependencies of the libreoffice packages. I cannot run libreoffice without default-jre and libreoffice-java-common.

No, you can run it just fine. Just that all the Java features will not work, but those are not eseential.
It is 100% intended that it's not a Depends. Actually that on ei s in Depends: where it is strictly needed and otherwise those Java-support packages are Recommended by various libreoffice packages, too.
