I'm seeing the same under testing.
It's worth noting that the problem is quite a bit more complex:
When switching to the classic menu style, Writer's icon shows.
Calc's icon doesn't show even in menu style.
Calc's icon shows, but only in menu style when hovering on its menu item.
The difference between Writer's icon in launcher mode versus in classic
style or kmenuedit could be explained by a difference in icon size. The
normal, launcher mode displays bigger icons.
By the way, I started to notice problems with icons before upgrading to
3.5. Still in 3.5, when switching between windows (Alt+Tab), Writer has
no icon (or rather an X.org icon). This part might have been worst
before the upgrade (i.e. also no icon in the taskbar), but I can't
remember for sure.
