Bug#670350: libreoffice-writer needs libreoffice-base for form controls
Package: libreoffice-writer
Version: 1:3.5.2-2ubuntu1
Severity: normal
This has originally been reported in the Ubuntu bugtracker for Ubuntu 12.04
(libreoffice 3.5.2-2ubuntu1) by Franck:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/986205
"LO in Ubuntu 12.04 fails to open an odt document that contains a checkbox.
Works fine in LO 3.4 on Ubuntu 11.10.
The problem occurs only when the package libreoffice-base is *not* installed
and only for the Ubuntu package, i.e. either installing libreoffice-base or
using libreoffice 3.5 from http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ allows to open
the file.
"
An example file that fails to open is linked in the above bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/986205/+attachment/3095819/+files/test_lo_checkbox.odt
When the file is attempted to open (without having libreoffice-base installed),
it leads to a "Read-Error. Error reading file."
While the above bug has been reported for 3.5.2-2ubuntu1, the same bug occurs
for libreoffice 3.5.2-4+b1 (sid) and 3.5.3~rc1-1 (experimental) -- but only for
the Debian/Ubuntu packages, not for the upstream packages at
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/
To the user this appears as a regression, because the files could be opened
with libreoffice 3.4 without needing libreoffice-base. The problem seems not
specific to files with checkboxes but to all files including any "form
controls". More examples of files failing to open are the "OpenDocument Format
(ODF)" files on the top of this page:
