I personally have found the LibreOffice community to be, as FLOSS
developer communities go, *very* welcoming and easy to contribute to.

It is basically the quite widespread "submit a patch to the developer
mailing list" procedure. What about this is "complex" or "secret"? The
main added twist is that we prefer patches made with "git
format-patch" so that we automatically have a copyright trail.
