Right, it doesn't. if this was a bug (see below) this would only be grave.

(Remark: don't use soffice, better to use libreoffice. Doesn't have to do
with this problem, though)

Notice the /usr/local.

That's your problem. You have a hand-compiled(?) libpng which doesn't match what
libreoffice is built against (which is Debians official libpng12 with versioned
symbols).

In you subject you write "oosplash.bin possibly compiled against wrong version of
libpng12". 

No, oosplash is compiled against the *correct* libpng12, sou have a wrong version in 
/usr/local.

Remove it and/or fix it.
