hello rene,
i've finally found a possible solution to the missing/hiding application window.
here's the solution used for gimp, which loads a splash screen, and then a
graphics window and a toolbox. the splash window should be hinted as follows:
gtk_window_set_type_hint (window, GDK_WINDOW_TYPE_HINT_SPLASHSCREEN);

take a pan-x-window solution from.
as i told you, varkon users, including me, seem to suffer of a similar problem.
