You don't have more of the log by chance? I.e. the order in which packages
get upgraded and/or output?

Probably it installed a -core which unfucked the services.rdb which
somehow got corrupted in your case (I bet it's simply 0 byte)
I've seen this in some rare ocassions too, but never found out when
exactly this happens... There even was a bug for this once...
