Reverse question: How should upstream know? I am barely able to keep up and backport a known fix here and there, I don't have the time to do upstream bugfixing anyway...

Oh, I *did* test 2.4. My comment was a bit unclear, I think, sorry.
I did test with 1:2.4.0~rc1-2.3pre from current bzr (which will become 1:2.4.0~rc1-3).
