Opening the file you attached using 2.4.0~rc2 from unstale gave me the
same results as the screenshot.

Installing ttf-mikachan fonts package "fixed" the problem.

So it does seems like a font problem and not OO.org related one. Please
verify.

I didn't understand your reference to Nautilus...
