Bug#229758: openoffice.org: Me too

Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.2-5
Severity: normal
Followup-For: Bug #229758

I thought it would be worth to "second this" too since there was no
input since april. I'm still experiencing that on 1.1.2-5, which is the
pre-latest version on Sarge (and 1.1.2dfsg1-1's changelog doesn't talk
about this).
I'm very happy I found this bug report so I find a workaround for that
problem. I had started the switch to KOffice when I got the idea to
check the bug reports and found this...
Now I realize that when started in console I get
I18N: Operating system doesn't support locale ""
fixed by
export LANG=fr_CA

Note that the information provided by reportbug about locales seem
wrong, probably because I started it from the terminal in which I
started openoffice and had to set those variables.

About the severity of that bug, it is one of the 5 important/normal bugs in the list of
those I was wishing that reinstalling a fresh Sarge could fix. Another
one of this list is that I always get

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
    LANGUAGE = (unset),
    LC_ALL = (unset),
    LANG = "fr_CA@euro"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory

in various programs but since this only creates extra console output I didn't mind that it
is probably easy to fix manually (something must have went wrong in my
install). I realize just now that those two bugs are related, because as
the original reporter mentions, dead keys work with ALL other programs I
used (and I use this as my desktop since 4 months). OOo does not
generate the 10-lines error message mentionned above. It probably
should...
To precise the actual problem, when a dead key (such as the very used in
french "accent grave") is pressed, the following key that's pressed
generates no character instead of the expected accented character.
