Thanks for the info - I hadn't noticed that.  The problem is that the
'oopadmin' script does not currently use the settings in
/etc/openoffice/openoffice.conf.

You can work around this by running spadmin like this:

SAL_DISABLE_CUPS=1 oopadmin
