Bug#256826: arp interactions

Hi,

the frozen time may be shorter, if one does not arp -s/-f the hosts in the
local network. E.g. with telnet the error

strcmp:/tmp> telnet 192.168.171.5
Trying 192.168.171.5...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host

(an arp timeout)
for non-preloaded (and non-existing) hosts is much faster, than a
tcp timeout. Still, this
is by chance only and freezing windows are very disturbing. Can
contacting the print server be made asynchroneous? Or at least, after a
while, open a 'please wait, still contacting the print server (%s)'-box?
