Bug#252279: openoffice.org: EPS import doesn't work
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.1-3
Severity: important
When importing an EPS file via Insert -> Graphics -> From file...
the EPS comments are shown as text; or if it's actually an EPSI file
(containing a preview) the preview is shown (note that it's impossible
to choose a *.epsi file, as the filter only accepts *.eps).
This is fine, as I understand that it's not really an option to embed
ghostscript into OOo.
However, when the document is printed to a postscript printer or
exported to PDF, the resulting output still contains the comments or the
(low resolution) preview; _not_ the actual contents of the EPS.
This means that the EPS "import" as such is useless.
A workaround is to convert the EPS to a bitmap before importing, but
that defeats the vector drawing of postscript / PDF (where you can zoom
in and still have sharp edges etc.).
I tried using EMF as format to import, but although the preview is fine
in that case, the output sucks when printed. Basically a separate bug,
but as I only used that as an attempted workaround, it doen't bother me
:-) Besides, I see plenty of bug reports about EMF import at the OOo
site, none about EPS import.
Thanks,
Paul Slootman
