Went to report this bug, saw it's already reported, saw one other person's
fix (changing his locale), and thought I'd add a little additional info.
I too was having this problem, and fixed it with dpkg-reconfigure locales.
However, I didn't actually change my locale, I left it set to "C". Simply
generating the en_US locale made the bug go away, despite the fact that my
environment clearly shows LANG=C -- not sure if that's a bug or just a
documentation issue ("Make sure you have the en_US locale generated!").
Anyhow, just letting ya know...
