The Debian Octave-Forge packages will soon use a fully debhelper-based
infrastructure in their building, through the new package dh-octave,
instead of the old CDBS-based package octave-pkg-dev. Notice that
both octave-pkg-dev and dh-octave can peacefully coexist, but the
former will be deprecated when the migration will be completed.
I made the appropriate changes in Git for autodep8, in the branch
"octave". If there is no objection, I propose to upload a new version
of the package to unstable.
One thing that I forgot to mention in my message below is that his new
support for the Octave packages should not be backported into stretch,
unless there is someone willing to backport the dh-octave package too.
