I have just seen the upload of Debian release 3.4.3-4 where the symbols file has been removed and replaced by an shlibs file. I was about to write a message on this list arguing precisely in this direction: given the time that we already spent on making the symbols file compatible with all archs, ang given the time that we would have been spending in the future (since it is clear that with each new upstream version of octave and/or g++, most builds would have failed again), it is clear to me that maintaining this symbols file is a poor use of our limited time, and that an shlibs file has a much better benefit/effort ratio. This is even more true for the specific case of liboctave, since the number of reverse dependencies is probably going to be quite low. -- Sébastien Villemot Researcher in Economics & Debian Maintainer http://www.dynare.org/sebastien Phone: +33-1-40-77-84-04 - GPG Key: 4096R/381A7594
