The GUI is amazingly sluggish and sometimes takes all of X's
performance with it, so that at times I have to ssh into the machine
to kill the GUI as it's not possible to change windows anymore --
mouse clicks go to nowhere.

I have never seen this problem other than when mlgui is running.
