These checks look great. I have no complaints about how you're going
about it. The only thing that I would ask is for corresponding test suite
entries for the new tags.
It looks like in most cases a test case that just creates empty files or
creates some simple *.o files (from trivial C code with functions that
return a constant int or something) and packs some of them into *.a files
would be able to test all of these tags.
