It is a bad idea if it badly done.
For instance, under the OCaml team, we have a lot of work to do when updating
ocaml compiler, since every package has to be recompiled.
More generally, we follow a policy for stating how to prepare a good ocaml
package. When updating the policy, we have to update all ocaml-related
packages too.
All in all, package management must be done as a whole, not only per-package
or maintainer. Hence, in your situation, the better alternative would be to
join our team and add your packages in our repository so that we can perform
those changes if needed.
