Don't really have time for it now, will see if i can find time this weekend.
That said :

So, basically, the problem is also present on sparc, and may be endianess
related. John: any big-endian debian developer machine may exhibit this
problem, so you can fix it yourself. Could you at least try to run it on alpha
or another little endian non-x86 box to see if it is an endianess issue ?
