If you mean with "using" packages depending on it then yes, you were
wrong. But judging from the discussion on the ocaml list at the time and
from comments that sparingly appears still on the ocaml list I think the
extlib has quite a lot of users.
As a personal experience: I use the (sf-)extlib.
