what's wrong with base2_2?
Hi all,
today I found enought time to try install Debian on SGI Indy (R4600, with
FPU). Everything of these base2_2.0.tgz, base2_2.1.tgz and base2_2.2.tgz
from ftp.uni-mainz.de/pub/Linux/debian-local/mips
gives the following result
# ls -l
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 bin
?-------w- 0 man root 1024 Jan 19 2001 boot
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 cdrom
?-------wx 0 root root 18432 Jan 24 2001 dev
?----wxr-- 0 root root 2048 Jan 24 2001 etc
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 floppy
?-------w- 0 50 root 1024 Jan 19 2001 home
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 initrd
?------r-- 0 root root 2048 Jan 24 2001 lib
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 19 2001 mnt
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 19 2001 proc
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 root
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Feb 26 2001 sbin
?-------w- 0 root root 1024 Feb 26 2001 tmp
?-----xr-x 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 usr
?-----xr-x 0 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 var
and filesystem is corrupted even if I untar this base to the disk while
using debian-mips-base-test_0.3.tar and then boot it.
ftp.rfc822.org/pub/local/debian-mips/
debian-mips-base-test_0.3.tar
this base gives the following
# ls -l
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 bin
drwxrwsr-x 2 root disk 1024 Jan 19 2001 boot
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 cdrom
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 18432 Jan 24 2001 dev
drwxr-xr-x 28 root root 2048 Jun 13 01:08 etc
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 floppy
drwxrwsr-x 2 root staff 1024 Jan 19 2001 home
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 initrd
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 2048 Jan 24 2001 lib
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 19 2001 mnt
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 19 2001 proc
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 root
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 sbin
drwxrwxrwt 3 root root 1024 Jun 13 01:20 tmp
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 usr
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 1024 Jan 24 2001 var
and works pretty well.
I've tried all following kernels from ftp.rfc822.org
kernel-image-2.4.0-ip22-r4k.tgz
kernel-image-2.4.0-test3-pre7-ip22-r4k.tgz
kernel-image-2.4.0-test6-ip22-r4k.tgz
kernel-image-2.4.0-test9-ip22-r4k.tgz
where only 2.4.0-test3-pre7 boots well for me.
unfortunately I havent enough space for crosscompiling because I'm using
my second machine for sh3 development.
Indy has 4.3GB disk and 160MB RAM and is connected to 1Gb net. Once it
will running I can start compiling packages and setup accounts for debian
developers.
thanks for your ideas
