It is difficult to get all the packaging tricks of a normal package in Debian right. Let alone the additional problems of proper library handling. So, may I recommend you to have a look at our wnpp bug page [4] and check if there are packages that you use that are up for adoption (O or RFA)? That way you can get the hang of packaging for Debian, while increasing the quality of the archive. Yes, I know it is more fun to package your own stuff, but this is a real good way to help Debian.
