The bug can still be fixed in wheezy.

On copyright and licenses you seem to need a sponsor.  Other than that it is
possible that you are doing excellent work on the package rkward.

I suggest to upload 1:0.5.7-3 with the fix for bug 689982 to unstable and to
ask debian-release for an unblock.  A different approach could be to agree with
debian-release to upload 0.5.7-3 with the fix for bug 689982 to
testing-proposed-updates.
